Elkhart, IN — Crossroads United Way is excited to announce the return of its wildly popular Cardboard Boat Race, set for Friday, August 14, 2026, at the LaSalle Bristol Pond in Elkhart. This year’s patriotic theme, “Party Like It’s 1776,” celebrates America’s 250th birthday with creativity, teamwork, and plenty of cardboard.

The all day event, presented by NIBCO, will run from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with the handmade cardboard boats officially hitting the water at 3:00 p.m. Last year’s race raised over $170,000 to support local programs and organizations that focus on youth opportunities, mental health, financial security, and advancing the common good.

Now Recruiting Sponsors, Teams, Volunteers, and Silent Auction Items   
Planning is officially underway, and Crossroads United Way is seeking:   
•    Event Sponsors to support the race and gain high visibility recognition before and during the event.   
•    Boat Race Teams made up of businesses, organizations, and groups ready to design and race their own cardboard creations.    
•    Volunteers to help with set up, boat launch, parking, and more    
•    Silent Auction Donations, including gift baskets, services, experiences, and items from local businesses.
