Tessa T. Barnes, affectionately known as “River” to family and friends, is a homegrown Elkhart professional dedicated to financial health and senior advocacy. As Owner and CEO of River’s Family Financial Solutions, LLC, and a Comprehensive Retirement Planner affiliated with American Senior Benefits, LLC, Tessa has specialized in protecting and guiding the financial well-being of seniors since 2009. She founded her firm in 2022 to address gaps in senior services, ensuring that all individuals—regardless of income—have access to critical resources and guidance.
A graduate of Elkhart Central High School, Tessa earned her degree in English and Sociology with a minor in Business from Indiana University, Bloomington. Her professional career is matched by her deep commitment to community service. She has held leadership roles with the City of Elkhart Board of Safety, NAACP Elkhart Branch, Heart City Health Center Board, and the South Central Neighborhood Committee, and is an active member of Maple City Toastmasters.
Tessa brings to the Crossroads United Way Board of Directors her expertise in financial planning, senior advocacy, and strategic problem-solving, providing insight into sustainable programs that support the financial stability and well-being of community members. She is passionate about programs that promote community advancement, diversity, and inclusivity, reflecting her belief that meaningful change begins when individuals are empowered with the right tools and resources.
Beyond her professional and civic commitments, Tessa is a devoted mother and grandmother, inspiring her family to approach life with intention and to positively impact the lives of others.
